Kounaves - In-Situ Planetary Chemical Analysis Laboratory

2024-06-19

In-situ planetary chemical analysis focused on fundamental questions in planetary science using the techniques of modern analytical chemistry. Currently part of the the 2007 Phoenix mission aimed at exploring Mars, its history, geochemistry, and potential for supporting past or present life.

Research focused on fundamental questions in planetary science using analytical chemistry and electrochemically-based sensors. Major area of interest is the use of in-situ chemical analysis systems to understand Mars, its geochemistry, and potential for supporting microbial life in the regolith and ice caps. We are also interested in applying the same techniques to investigate the sub-glacial oceans on Europa.
