Genomics : GTL Program, U.S. Department of Energy

2024-06-13

The next step at the Department of Energy to use data and resources from the Human Genome Project to accelerate understanding of dynamic living systems. The scientific plan for GTL merges advanced high throughput technologies with computational biology to generate models of how cells respond to environmental changes. Fundamental processes are being explored on three levels: proteins and protein complexes that perform most of the work of the cell, gene regulatory networks that control those proceses, and microbial ecosystems or communities in which the cells interact. Applications of the GTL knowledge base will target critical DOE mission challenges in energy security, global climate change, and toxic waste cleanup.
