The beveled edge chisel, sometimes also called the beveled edge firmer and the paring chisel, is much the same as the straight-sided, general purpose chisel, except that the top face of the blade is beveled along both sides. In use, it is designed to be held in one hand and pushed with the other. The beveled edges allow the chisel to be used to pare out difficult-to-reach angles, as in undercut joints like sliding dovetails and housings.
